First-year students of the College of Teacher Education (CTE) at ISPSC immersed themselves in the dynamic world of 21st Century Literacies during a culminating activity for their subject, Building and Enhancing New Literacies across the Curriculum. Held on August 25, 2024, at the college gymnasium, the event revolved around the theme: “Fostering Future-Ready Minds: New Literacies for the 21st Century.”

The students, hailing from the four CTE programs—Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Physical Education, and Bachelor of Secondary Education—enthusiastically participated in a variety of activities aimed at promoting future-ready skills and values.

A central feature of the event was the culmination exhibit, where students set up booths showcasing their literary works and artworks. These exhibits reflected their personal advocacies, including themes such as environmentalism, societal issues, reading promotion, and support for ISPSC’s mission.

In addition to the creative displays, resource speakers delivered lectures on essential literacies:

• Arts and Creativity Literacy:
  Mrs. Joselita Viado, BCAED Program Head, highlighted the importance of engaging with and interpreting art, emphasizing its ubiquity in daily life. “Art is everywhere. Art is every day,” she shared.
• Financial Literacy:
  Mr. Jayson James Balbin, Income Generating Projects Director, underscored the importance of prioritizing necessities to secure a better life. “You should only pay for something worth it,” he advised.
• Digital Literacy:
  Mr. Ryan Jay Cuevas, BSCS Faculty, introduced the students to three popular AI-powered tools—Logoai, Tome.app, and Animaker. While acknowledging their utility, he also cautioned about their potential drawbacks.

The event concluded with a campus clean-up drive, reinforcing the importance of environmental literacy. This hands-on activity symbolized the students’ commitment to translating their realizations into tangible actions for sustainability.

The successful culmination fostered a deeper understanding of 21st Century Literacies, inspiring students to become proactive, informed, and creative educators in a rapidly changing world.
