The Northern Collegian was honored with the Gold Award for Most Outstanding Student Publication at the ISPSC 6th Gawad Parangal. This achievement reflects their dedication to unleashing truth, animating stories, and amplifying voices in the academic year 2023–2024. The editorial board celebrated their success by highlighting a year filled with innovation, collaboration, and excellence.


Major Achievements:

  1. Participation in the Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC):
    Held at HoteLinda Suites, Vigan City (February 7–9, 2024), the editorial board enhanced their journalistic skills by competing in various categories:

    • Editorial Writing (English): Jan Andrei D. Manzano, 10th Place
    • Photojournalism (Filipino): Stephen Laberinto, 8th Place
    • Additional participants: Wayne Charlotte Lavaro (Literary Graphics), Cheryl Tamayo (Pagsulat ng Balita), Sophia Belo (Pagsulat ng Opinyon), and Alfhea Alibuyog (Radio Broadcasting).
    • Observers: Aira Joy Benemerito, Kristine Galimba, Irish Fernandez, and Chelsea Marie Irish Aragones.
  2. Intramurals 2024 Special Coverage and Newsletter:
    During ISPSC’s Intramurals 2024 (February 19–22, 2023), the publication provided real-time coverage through Facebook updates and released a comprehensive NC E-Newsletter on both Facebook and Issuu.

  3. Northern Viewscope TV Broadcasting Launch:
    On August 3, 2023, the Northern Collegian launched its TV broadcasting platform, The Northern Viewscope, creating videos, audio-visual graphics, and other content to engage the ISPSC community.

  4. Journalistic Seminars and Outreach Programs:
    The team conducted workshops to share their expertise with other schools:

    • Sta. Lucia Catholic School (October 18, 2023): Topics included news writing, editorial writing, sports writing, and radio broadcasting.
    • Paypayad Elementary School (February 2, 2024): Covered a broader range of topics, including photojournalism, editorial cartooning, and science-feature writing.
  5. Rimat Day:
    Launched in September 2023, this initiative showcases student literary works and illustrations every Monday, engaging the student body in creative expression.

  6. Social Media Engagement:
    The Northern Collegian Facebook Page consistently informed the ISPSC community through diverse content, from breaking news to opinion pieces, while fostering student interaction and participation.
